The Founding of the Ming Dynasty
The Ming dynasty was founded by Zhu Yuanzhang, a former Buddhist monk who rose to power during the chaos of the late Song and early Yuan dynasties. After overthrowing the Mongol-led Yuan government in 1368, Zhu established his capital in Nanjing and took on the imperial title of Hongwu Emperor.
Administrative Reforms
Hongwu implemented a series of administrative reforms aimed at strengthening central control and reducing corruption within the bureaucracy. He divided China into provinces, prefectures, and counties, with each level having its own governor or magistrate responsible for collecting taxes and maintaining order.

Cultural Achievements
The Ming era saw numerous cultural achievements including porcelain production reaching new heights with pieces like blue-and-white ceramics becoming highly sought after globally; calligraphy flourishing under masters like Dong Qichang; woodblock printing revolutionizing literature distribution through mass-produced books; architecture exemplified by grand structures such as Beijing's Forbidden City; plus an emphasis on Confucianism which led to many scholars taking civil service exams designed to select capable officials for government positions.
Decline & Fall
Despite these successes however towards its end the Ming dynasty began experiencing internal strife between different factions vying for power along with external threats from Manchu invaders out of northeastern regions leading eventually culminating in Jurchen-led Qing forces capturing Peking (modern-day Beijing) thereby ending over two centuries-long rule marking beginning of Qing dynasty that would last until 1912 when it too fell before Republic Of China was established on mainland following years turmoil during Warlord Era
